Interesting facts

A puffin can load many fish into its beak thanks to backward-pointing spines on the roof of its mouth. The world record load (held by a bird in northern Norway) is more than 60 small fish - a number nearly matched by a Scottish puffin.

When and where to see

Puffins come ashore in Scotland from late April (some may be later in the north and west) until mid-August. July is the peak month to see adults with beak-loads of fish coming in to feed chicks. 

Some of the best places to see them are the Treshnish Isles off Mull, Handa in west Sutherland, Hoy in Orkney, Noss and Hermaness in Shetland, the Isle of May in Fife and the Farne Islands just across the border in Northumberland.

A very special wedding!

We had a fantastic time last Saturday for the wedding of my step daughter Verity with David Yarwood. Everybody had a fun time and it was great to meet new people and make new friends. Everything went smooth and as they say photos speak louder than words, here they are!

I'm delighted to report that the couple travelled well to their honeymoon location in St Lucia that they described as paradise. The Lord bless you richly Verity and David in Jesus' mighty name.

Music and family: a perfect combination!

Last week on Thursday, Steven had a very important meeting in a recording studio called Redbridge Studios in Bolton! As a retirement gift from his last school, St Peter in Hixon, the pupils chose to give him a voucher for a recording session and he was over the moon. The session went extremely well and Neil, the music producer was very friendly. I will put the recording on my youtube channel as soon as possible now that we are back home!

In the evening, our daugthers who were in Manchester joined us for a diner with the bride to be Verity and David, the bridegroom in the Rivington. It was great to spend time all together and we talked a lot about the wedding of course! 

On the Friday, it was the wedding rehearsal at the church and I decided to join the girls who were still in Manchester so we went for a relaxed lunch. Later on that night, my sister in law Pauline and her sister Eiline met us at an indian restaurant in the centre of Adlington, Zalzala. I recommend this place, the service and the food were excellent and we had a great time!

Tidying our house to be!

Dear friends, we have been very busy those last days looking after our house in Civray, south of France. First Steven had to mow the lawn or should I say the 'field'. It was a big job because the grass and weeds became thick and long, in fact it took him ages to do one part of the garden and now we are waiting for some good weather to do the rest.
Then woodworms; we knew that there were some in the shelves in the basement so Steven bought the gear and the spray in England, getting ready for the onslaught!

I battled with the ivy only to realise that this poor bush was really struggling under the sap sucking ivy so we were wondering if it was worth 'saving' one of the main branches was covered with thick layer of ivy all around it..

A few photos

We went to Ruffec, a lovely town not far from us and on the way back we stopped in a wood full of sweet chestnuts trees and we had great pleasure to pick them up, they were pretty easy to open up and we were grateful to the Lord for this unexpected bonanza.

By the canal!

 This afternoon, Steven and I went for a walk by the canal from Hixon to Great Haywood and back. On the way, I picked up some blackberries while Steven was taking photos. It 's been a beautiful day and lots of barges were about with a few  fishermen tackling perches while swans and cygnets were parading gracefully.
